I love visiting Walt Disney World. My first visit was as a teenager visiting with my folks right before graduation. At that time, there was only one park—Magic Kingdom and I must admit that it was quite a place even then. I remember getting on the monorail and riding through the Contemporary and the Polynesian Resort hotels and thinking that this was as good as it gets.
It was a long time between visits—being shipped to Hawaii made it pretty much impossible to visit Florida so while I loved going there, it wasn’t a possibility. My first visit back to Orlando was with a teenaged daughter. We were so excited and allowed our daughter to take along a friend so she wouldn’t have to hang out with parents. Good decision on our part! We checked into the Caribbean Beach Resort late in the evening and was immediately given an upgrade, just for waiting a few minutes—I was totally shocked and impressed, a feeling that has not gone away over 20 years later. I think the best part of this trip was all the Christmas decorations that were all over. I still remember Christmas music to a Caribbean beat.
Our longest trip was 10 days in December. We arrived after our very first cruise, on the Disney Wonder of course, on Christmas Eve. Everything was so wonderful and we had a marvelous time. Afternoon tea at the Grand Floridian is a great memory—we had such a nice time I didn’t want it to end!
More recently, we took our daughter and grandchildren to Walt Disney World in 2009. As so often is the case with children, our youngest grandson got an ear infection prior to departure. He and his mom delayed their flight by a day and his older brothers experienced their first flights alone from their home to meet up with us in Denver. We had a whole day at Walt Disney World without their mom! What a magical time. The youngest decided his new career when he grew up would be to drive a bus so he could go to Walt Disney World and take his mom and brothers on the Magical Express.
There is something for every family type at Walt Disney World—young singles, families with kids, and grandparents with grandchildren in tow—there truly are magical memories awaiting you and your family, let me help you plan for them!
